Brittany Vacation Rental
- SQF 1,000
This beautifully renovated two bedroom/one bath apartment is located on the second floor of a traditional stone cottage set in the heart of Brittany and directly across the street from the Presbytère, the priest's residence for the local Catholic church.
The apartment offers a fully equipped kitchen with all dinnerware and cutlery, fridge-freezer, gas range with oven, microwave, toaster, kettle, coffee maker, and dishwasher. You will enjoy preparing meals on the butcher-block kitchen island and sitting at the large pine table while enjoying the view of the old stone church in the center of town.
The cottage’s recent renovations feature new floors throughout, decorator interior paint and new furniture. Both bedrooms features skylights, and have queen-sized beds with high-thread-count Egyptian cotton linens. The newly renovated bathroom offers a contemporary, luxurious feeling with nice thick towels and a heated towel rack.
While you will want to explore the culture and cuisine of the area, you will feel at home with the flat-screen TV, high-speed WiFi and unlimited international phone calls. A printer is available for use.
Within two blocks of the cottage, you will find a neighborhood bar, a local pizzeria, a grocery store, and “Le Fournil des Menhirs” patisserie (bakery) – voted one of the 110 best in France! You are also within walking distance of the Poste and a pharmacy.
The English- and French-speaking property manager lives nearby and will be happy to meet you at the train or airport if you arrive after the car rental offices close (and get you to them when they re-open). The property manager can also answer questions and offer suggestions on activities and anything else you might need during your stay.
About the Area
Plomelin is a small town (population under 5000) that lies five miles down the Odet River from the cultural center of this part of Brittany, Quimper, and six miles from beautiful sandy beaches.
The area is well known for its Quimper faience pottery and the magnificent Cathedral of St. Corentin, widely considered the best example of gothic architecture in all of Brittany.
You can explore the Musée départemental breton (Breton Museum), devoted to regional history and archaeology, and the Musée des beaux-arts (Fine Arts Museum) housing fourteenth to twenty-first-century paintings.
Quimper is known throughout the region and the Celtic world for its Festival of Cornouaille, which celebrates Breton culture in all its forms during the first week of July. You can enjoy folk art, traditional music and dance from the region, as well as internationally known performers. Joan Baez, Sinead O’Connor and James Blunt have recently headlined at the festival.
Visit the Quimper Tourism Office website for a lot of helpful information about the area.
The Quimper-Pluguffan Airport (UIP) has three daily flights to and from Paris Orly (ORY) airport on HOP! airline. British Airways offers flights from London City Airport (LCY) during the summer.
TGV high-speed train from Paris Gare de Montparnasse Station to Gare de Quimper in 4 hours 25 minutes (traveling through Le Mans, Rennes and Vannes).
A six-hour drive from Paris.
We highly recommend renting a car during your stay so you can enjoy the entire region. There are car rental offices at the train station and airport (we recommend using EconomyCarRentals.com).
